History of Injectable Filler
No matter your age or skin type, acne, caused by clogged pores and bacteria, is never a welcome guest—nor are the scars and discoloration that acne can sometimes leave behind. The good news is that, beyond the aisles of your local drugstore, there are a number of safe and effective treatments that can help treat acne and reduce the appearance of acne scars while simultaneously conferring a number of other skincare benefits at the same time. This post will give you a rundown on some of the most popular acne treatments, all delivered by the team of experienced professionals at CANE + AUSTIN Medi Spa.
Facial treatments, which cleanse and exfoliate the skin, can be very effective in fighting acne and blackheads. A medical facial, which is performed by a licensed dermatologist, aesthetician, or other medical professional and which uses pharmaceutical grade products, provides a more intensive and personalized treatment than your typical commercial spa facial, along with results that are more dramatic and longer-lasting. In addition to deeply cleansing the pores, CANE + AUSTIN Medi Spa medical facials also utilize medical grade glycolic acid solutions. Glycolic acid’s high solubility and small molecule size allow it to deeply penetrate pores for intensified cleansing. Depending on your unique skincare concerns and needs, your CANE + AUSTIN practitioner may also incorporate other non-invasive treatments into your medical facial to provide further safe, effective treatment for your acne.
A chemical peel is a skincare treatment in which a dermatologist, aesthetician, or other licensed professional applies a chemical solution to a patient’s face, neck, or hands—a glycolic acid solution is used in many cases, due to its powerful cleansing and rejuvenating properties. This solution will cause the outer layers of dry, dead skin to blister and peel away, revealing a younger, newer layer of skin underneath. In addition to providing cleansing and exfoliation that can help fight acne, CANE + AUSTIN chemical peels can also help to visibly reduce the appearance of scarring and discoloration caused by acne.
Like the name suggests, this recently-developed procedure uses ultra-fine needles (between 0.5 to 2.5 millimeters in diameter) to stimulate collagen growth in the skin in combination with a growth factor. The tiny needle punctures make the body “think” that the skin has been wounded, and it reacts by increasing collagen production around the “wounds,” making the outer layer of skin thicker and smoother. Prior to applying the needles, the skincare practitioner will apply an anesthetic cream to the skin so that the patient doesn’t experience any discomfort. Microneedling is often recommended as a great way to reduce the appearance of acne scars by filling them in, and can also minimize the appearance of skin bumps that result from clogged pores.
Like microneedling, Fraxel laser skin resurfacing therapy (“Fraxel” is a brand name) stimulates the body’s natural healing properties to encourage collagen growth, great for filling in wrinkles, fine lines, and acne scars. Also like microneedling, Fraxel is particularly recommended for reducing the appearance of acne scars. Fraxel’s tiny laser beams safely penetrate beneath the outer layer of skin to create microscopic “microthermal” zones. The laser beams eliminate damaged skin cells while stimulating new collagen growth around these microthermal zones, allowing fresher and younger skin to form. Fraxel laser skin resurfacing therapy is typically done in several sessions over a number of weeks.
