What causes Acne?

Acne is one of the most common skin concerns brought to my attention by patients!!

Many think acne is a condition of your youth—typically effecting teenagers—but, in truth, 50% of women over 20 years of age have acne.

The two main causes of adult acne are hormonal changes and genetics, but there are several triggers that are responsible for acne outbreaks.  Triggers include stress, environment, diet, and medications.

What is Acne?

Acne is the inflammation of the hair follicle—there are a few steps that lead up to the appearance of pimples.

What is the best way to treat acne?

There are numerous different treatments for acne, including topical anti-biotic, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, medications like accutane and retin a, or even a basic cleanser.

Everyone is different, and treatment plan can differ on age, gender, and skin goals.  For the past 10 years, I have seen incredible results with using in-home Glycolic Acid Peel pads used with a salicylic acid based scrub.
