How can Kybella help my double chin?

Kybella is a prescription medicine that Dr. Austin injects into the fat beneath your chin. It is a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the human body that helps break down and absorb fat. When Dr. Austin injects Kybella into the fat cells under your chin, it destroys them, giving you a noticeable reduction in fullness under your chin. Since the fat cells are destroyed, they can no longer store fat, so the results are long-lasting.

How many Kybella treatment sessions does it take to eliminate a double chin?

As with all of the aesthetic and cosmetic dermatology treatments offered at CANE + AUSTIN Medi Spa, the number of Kybella treatments you need is customized to your particular needs and goals. On average, men and women typically receive six treatments, each a month or more apart.

A single treatment consists of a series of small injections under your chin and takes about 20 minutes. The exact number of injections depends on the amount of fat you have under your chin and the results you desire.

What are possible side effects and recovery time after Kybella?

After a Kybella treatment, you are likely to have swelling, bruising, or numbness under your chin. This usually goes away on its own after a few days. You may want to plan to take a couple days to rest and recover before you return to your usual activities. Dr. Austin explains everything in detail at your consultation so you know exactly what to expect.

Who is a good candidate for Kybella treatments?

As long as you’re in good overall health, aren’t pregnant, and haven’t had an infection in the treatment area, you may be a good candidate for Kybella. Some additional factors to consider include:

  • Your desire to get rid of a bothersome double chin
  • Your desire to avoid cosmetic surgery
  • Extra fullness under your chin even after proper diet and exercise
